Puccini’s Madama Butterfly brings us to a different world – the time is 1904 and the place is Nagasaki, Japan. This is a story of a geisha named Cio-Cio San (Madama Butterfly) who falls in love with an American naval officer, Lieutenant Pinkerton. In order to bring us to Japan in 1904, our costume designer, Ana Rumsfield has been working hard to create and to acquire authentic costumes – usually found in Japan on eBay. With a large cast and chorus, this is not a small task. This is where you can help. There are a number of costumes we are searching for as shown below. Your donation can help us acquire new costumes to bring this story of love and loss to life in Oak Park on July 29 & 31. Each costume is composed of the lined robe and a belt or an “obi” that helps keep the kimono in place.
